Nylon66, also known asnylon 6, 6, polyamide-66 or polymerized from hexamethylenediamine and adipic acid, has good comprehensive properties such as high strength, good rigidity, impact resistance, oil and chemical resistance, wear resistance, and self-lubrication, and especially superior properties of hardness, rigidity, heat resistance and creep resistance. In addition, raw materials are easy to obtain and cost is low, so it is widely used in industrial, clothing, decoration, engineering plastics and other fields. PA66's melting point is higher than PA6's, has excellent heat resistance, high elasticity modulus, low water absorption, and better performance as a molded product, especially because of its good heat and oil resistance, it is suitable for producing mechanical parts around automotive engines and parts of electronic and electrical products that are easy to be heated. Currently, PA66 accounts for 63% of its application in vehicles, 22% in electronic and office automation equipment, and 5% in machinery and optics, so the market sales of PA66 composite materials are growing rapidly. In recent years, with the rapid development of automotive, electrical, communication, electronic, mechanical and other industries, higher and more demanding requirements have been put forward for PA66 products, which has also accelerated the process of high performance of PA66 and its composite materials.
Good stress cracking resistance
The best wear resistance polyamide
Good heat resistance and belongs to self-extinguishing material
Good self-lubrication, second only to PTFE and POM
Excellent oil resistance and soluble in phenol and formic acid
High mechanical strength and good chemical stability
Adding carbon black can improve its weather resistance
PA6 and PA66's chemical and physical properties are similar but PA6's melting point is lower, and its process temperature range is wide, and it has stronger impact resistance and solvent resistance. The differences between PA6 and PA66 are compared below :
Performance | PA66 | PA6 |
Structural Unit | Polycondensation from hexanediamine adipate | Caprolactam polycondensation |
Melting Point | Up to 260℃ | Low melting point, about 40 ℃ lower, with a wide range of process temperatures |
Heat Resistance | Good heat resistance | Poor temperature resistance |
Mechanical Property | PA66 has good rigidity and better elastic modulus | PA6 has good toughness, better impact resistance and dissolution resistance than PA66 |
Other Performance | However, it is difficult to dye, difficult to color, and has a better feel than nylon 6 | More hygroscopic |
Application | Tyre cords and hot water resistant washing fabrics, as well as woven fabrics, on industrial gears such as marine propellers | Climbers, automotive structural components |
Price | Nylon 66 is more expensive than nylon 6 |
